Live CPSC recall data, no login needed

Selling a recalled product is a federal violation. Screen your catalog before the CPSC does.

TJX paid a $13 million civil penalty for selling and distributing recalled products, and the CPSC escalated enforcement in 2026 with expanded market surveillance and a criminal-referral posture for continued sales. Recall Guard screens every item in your catalog against the live CPSC recall database and gives you a dated screening log for the compliance file.

The screen

Upload a catalog CSV. Get flags and a dated log.

Columns we look for: product name, brand, model, SKU (headers are matched loosely, extra columns are ignored). Your file never leaves the browser. The screen itself queries the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's public recall API live.

Drop your catalog CSV here, or click to browse .csv with product name, brand, model, SKU. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

The sample catalog is fictitious demo data (12 items). One item is planted on purpose to match a real CPSC recall (the Peloton Tread+ treadmill, recalled May 2021) so you can see a hit against live data.

Waiting for a catalog
Both the direct CPSC connection and the relay are unreachable right now, so this run used cached real CPSC data captured 2026-08-08 (61 recalls incl. 2026 year-to-date). Results are still real recalls, but re-run later for the full live window.
How it works

Three steps, one artifact: the dated screening log.

1

Upload the catalog you already have

Any CSV export with product names works: Shopify, Amazon inventory reports, liquidation manifests, a POS export, or a plain spreadsheet. Loose header matching finds name, brand, model, and SKU columns.

2

We screen live CPSC data

Every item is matched against the CPSC recall database: a rolling recall window plus all-years lookups for each brand in your file. Matching is scored, and anything uncertain is flagged for review rather than silently passed.

3

Keep the compliance log

You get flagged items with the matched recall (title, date, hazard, remedy, link) and a dated CSV screening log. If a regulator, marketplace, or licensing inspector ever asks, you can show you screened, and when.

Why now

The CPSC stopped asking nicely.

Federal law flatly prohibits selling recalled consumer products. What changed is how hard that rule is being enforced, and who counts as a seller.

$13,000,000

TJX civil penalty

TJX (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods) agreed to pay $13 million for selling, offering for sale, and distributing recalled products. Off-price and resale flows are exactly where recalled goods resurface.

Enforcement escalation

In 2026 the CPSC expanded market oversight, crossed its 100,000th online takedown notice, and signaled criminal referrals for firms that keep selling after a recall. Small sellers are no longer under the radar.

The Amazon ruling

The CPSC determined Amazon is a distributor legally responsible for recalled third-party products it fulfilled. If the biggest marketplace in the world is on the hook, so is every storefront selling through it.

The rule itself

It is unlawful to sell, offer for sale, or distribute in commerce any consumer product subject to a voluntary corrective action or mandatory recall. Intent does not matter; "we didn't know" is not a defense the statute offers.
